After working with an architect for several months, we were ready to implement our design for a renovation to our cottage on Owasco Lake, but next we needed to find a contractor. Since we do not reside on the lake year round, we had limited knowledge, but learned that Mike Poorman had done a renovation for friends who gave him a great recommendation. Our work schedule included demolition of our old cottage with the exception of an enclosed porch we hoped to save. That was a challenge for Mike and his team since it had to be raised to the level of the new construction as well as connected in a way that made it look like it was part of the new cottage. When it was time to remodel our small, 1950s home, we knew we would need someone with years of experience and a great reputation to tackle the job. The entire downstairs, including the kitchen, dining room, and living room needed to be re-done. Everything from the ceilings to the floors needed to be updated, but we wanted to maintain the warmth and charm of the old style to complement the woodwork in the house as well. The kitchen needed to be gutted, all the cabinetry replaced, and the space opened up to the dining room and living room. The finished renovation is absolutely amazing. People cannot believe how different our home looks.

The heavy rains and bees finally took their toll on the 22 year old roof, windows and siding. This was a job that we just did not have the time or energy to do on our own. Being very competent do-it-yourselfers and having been disappointed with so called professionals in the past we were very selective in who we were going to entrust our home to. We made some inquiries and approached Mike and one other contractor for bids. Our experience with Mike during the bidding process was far superior than with his competitor. Mike was quick to respond to our initial call. He was thorough during the walk through, he listened to us, asked questions and made suggestions. Mike's written proposal was very detailed and he took the time to explain it to us in person. He was upfront and honest with his pricing.

When the work began Mike's team was here bright and early each day. Everyone was conscientious, polite and they kept the job site tidy. Our project began as a relatively simple re-siding job but as we saw the quality of work being done by Mike's guys - John and Steve, we kept adding projects until virtually everything on the outside of the house was replaced: new roofing, siding, some windows, front porch, and Hogan's favorite, a custom dog door in back. We watched as their meticulous attention to detail converted our 1840's home to a modern place that passers-by all stop and offer compliments to on a regular basis.

Over the last 2 years Mike Poorman Contracting has completed two jobs for us on our Lake House on Owasco Lake. We had a lake front camp that had been in the family for over 70 years, and had significant sentimental value. It was not meant for year round living. It was small, no basement, and essentially without a real foundation. Mike Poorman was recommended by my neighbor after he built a cottage for her. Mike evaluated the job, and developed a plan which included adding a basement under the existing structure. The job also included adding a sizable addition that included an entrance way, Mud Room, additional Bath Room, and Master Suite.

A concern we had was that we reside in South Florida and could not be there over the winter to monitor the job. Not only did Mike finish the job on schedule, but was able to install a full size basement underneath the Camp. Mike kept us informed through pictures and frequent conversations. The job has exceeded our expectation in every way. We were so pleased that we decided to complete renovations throughout the rest of the Camp this year. This included installation of a deluxe kitchen, wall removal, and vaulted ceilings. Mike completed the job early and the outcome is fabulous. We actually have a Lake home now that is year round. We actually spent time there in January this year!

We are extremely pleased with Mike Poorman Contracting and the home renovation and addition that were done for us. From the bidding process, the planning with our architect, and the actual building, Mike and his crew, made sure we were kept informed and aware of any issues and/or changes.

Complicating matters, we spent three months in Florida while the construction was being done.
