"...professionalism, and unwavering pursuit of customer satisfaction."

It’s been almost a year since Mike Poorman and his team finished the renovation on our home and we could not be happier with the project. He and his team replaced all of the windows, doors, and siding on our home. Their attention to detail to ensure our satisfaction was greatly appreciated!

One example of the extra effort Mike put into our project happened the day that Mike called me at work to discuss a variation to the exterior trim. I was able to stop by and when I arrived he had two different custom trim options to review. This is not something I asked for, but Mike’s vision helped make the project look that much better.

We would like to thank Mike and his team for their great work, professionalism, and unwavering pursuit of customer satisfaction.”

"I give my highest recommendation to Mike Poorman Contracting"

I was around the building trades for about 30 summers during my professional life. I wouldn’t claim that I’m a carpenter, but I know enough to recognize competency and professionalism when I witness it. Mike and his crew recently installed replacement windows and doors in our house on a couple of extremely challenging weather days. They performed the work, on time, and to our satisfaction. They handled all the situations they came across with acumen and the willingness not to settle for second best. I give my highest recommendation to Mike Poorman Contracting and hope to avail myself to their services in the future.”

"On time. On budget."

You can’t ask for any more than that from your Contractor. We were looking at the option of adding a three car garage/2BR apartment to our Cayuga Lake property. I was very hesitant to do so as we had no experience with contractors and our main home is outside NYC. We would be six hours away from monitoring the process and correcting any problems. I was worried about having to track down my builder, demanding promised changes and watching deadlines pass. My neighbor had gone through this and I wasn’t thrilled having seen the process.

Another neighbor told me about Mike Poorman, who had done some work for them in the past. I got a chance to meet Mike and see some of his work. My wife and I got a good feeling from that meeting and decided to take the plunge. We worked with Bob Eggleston (designer) and he took our ideas and turned out a solid set of plans that had everything we wanted in the house. Bob and Mike guided us through the process with the Town and we quickly got approvals.

The construction contract was simple; I provide some money up front to get started. After that, more money would change hands as specific parts of the project were completed. That let me know that Mike had confidence in his team and I wouldn’t be pre-funding the whole build and at risk. Plans were approved over the winter, the contract was signed and we were ready to go in the spring.

No build ever goes exactly as expected, but basically, Mike and his crew executed down the contract in almost perfect sequence. Mike would send me pictures of completed work and we would move to the next line on the list. Occasionally, I would drive up to check things out or one of my neighbors would give me an update.

One thing Mike did which really helped was recommending that we choose certain materials ourselves. Things like flooring, kitchen cabinets, countertops etc. were outside the contract. Mike provided an estimate about approximate expense for materials but installation costs were in the contract. My wife and I got to choose exactly the items we wanted while knowing the added costs to our project. In this part of the process, Mike acted as our trusted advisor; steering us away from bad choices and dealing with the vendors once our choice was made.

Spring is almost here and we look forward to enjoying the new building. We’ve gotten a lot of compliments on the building’s appearance and the quality of workmanship. I highly recommend Mike and his team and expect to use them again in the future. I even enjoyed playing in his golf tournament!”

"To those of you seeking an outstanding contractor,"

Last summer, my wife and I contacted Mike Poorman Contracting to build an addition on the back of our two story bungalow on the east side of Auburn, near Hoopes Park. We chose Mike Poorman because of work that he did directly across the street earlier in the year. We watched that process from start to finish and observed the quality of work performed as well as being able to see the final product, that being a first class bedroom suite, and decided that he was the contractor for our upcoming project on our home.

Once we started working with Mike and his team of professionals, including his carpenters, the architect Bob Eggleston, as well as the excavator, plumbers, electricians, painters and dry wall crew, we were convinced that we selected the best General Contractor available in the area. The way that they were able to bring together a classic 90 year old bungalow with an addition of entry-way, laundry room and complete bathroom with custom tile shower, was absolutely amazing. We also decided to complete the project with a beautiful stamped concrete patio that added a beautiful outside living space to complete the project. If you looked at the back of our home, you would be convinced that that addition had always been there. Every detail from roof line to windows to trim work was perfect. Any problem encountered along the way was always resolved professionally and in a timely manner. Besides the excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail, Mike helped us in our selection of materials and color, as well as made additional recommendations that further enhanced the quality of the overall project.

We are so happy with our new addition and would highly recommend Mike Poorman Contracting for your home renovation, addition or remodeling project.”

"We cannot sing their praises enough."

We wanted to build a deck on our cottage and most of all; we wanted to be able to enjoy it this summer. In March we contacted several contractors in the area for a quote. Mike is the only one that actually came to the house to see the site before developing a quote. He was very clear about what everything would cost and helped us find ways to keep the project within our budget, all while making sure we got what we envisioned. Mike’s quote was higher than the other we received, but we felt comfortable with him knowing that he had seen the job site and was being realistic.

We knew we had to wait for the ground to thaw before getting started, and Mike’s team started the second it was possible. It took less than 3 weeks to complete the deck with marine cable railing. They were always on time, very courteous, and kept the job site very tidy. They also installed a beautiful new out-swing French door which was a huge upgrade to the space.

We were so happy with the work they did on the deck that we asked them to build a custom railing and ladder on our sleeping loft. They did this in 2 days, while we were away. When we came back it was finished, painted and absolutely gorgeous.

Mike and his team are extremely talented, meticulous and a joy to work with. Our little cottage is a labor of love and they shared our enthusiasm for the project. We are so proud of the work they have done and have many more projects we’d like to do with him.”

"He is wonderful to work with, and a well organized and detailed person."

The Finger Lakes SPCA of CNY was very pleased to have Mike Poorman our general contractor on a major renovation project to our building on 41 York Street in Auburn. The renovation included a new roof, removal of two big obsolete chimmey’s; the demolition of the old wooden structures across the entire back of the building, new construction of concrete walls and roof structure for new enclosures to the back of the building; renovation of a large garage area, and a new entry and walk. This project took a approximately five months to complete and Mike’s crew were here every work day.

We certainly were very happy to have Mike as our contractor because he is a person you can count on to do the job right the first time and complete the project in a timely manner. He is wonderful to work with, and a well organized and detailed person. His crews worked very hard to give us a building that was structurally sound, safe and aesthically pleasing both inside and out. I would recommend Mike Poorman to anyone [Residential or commerical] who is either putting up a new building or renovating an existing building.”

"Mike lived up to our expectation in every way."

After working with an architect for several months, we were ready to implement our design for a renovation to our cottage on Owasco Lake, but next we needed to find a contractor. Since we do not reside on the lake year round, we had limited knowledge, but learned that Mike Poorman had done a renovation for friends who gave him a great recommendation. He met with us on a Sunday afternoon and had a proposal within a few days. It did not take us any time to decide he was the person for the job. He kept us informed of every detail and had solutions and suggestions to our perceived problems.

Our work schedule included demolition of our old cottage with the exception of an enclosed porch we hoped to save. That was a challenge for Mike and his team since it had to be raised to the level of the new construction as well as connected in a way that made it look like it was part of the new cottage. We have been pleased with every aspect of the completed work.

Mike lived up to our expectation in every way. He is a man of integrity and is always there when he says he will be. He did everything in a timely manner and kept us informed with calls, emails and pictures when we were unable to be there. He has fulfilled our expectations and more. We are happy to recommend Mike Poorman to everyone who may have contracting needs. We know you will be happy with your decision.”

"Right from the start, we knew we were in good hands"

When it was time to remodel our small, 1950s home, we knew we would need someone with years of experience and a great reputation to tackle the job. The entire downstairs, including the kitchen, dining room, and living room needed to be re-done. Everything from the ceilings to the floors needed to be updated, but we wanted to maintain the warmth and charm of the old style to complement the woodwork in the house as well. We could not have done this without the advice of Mike Poorman and his team of experts.

The kitchen needed to be gutted, all the cabinetry replaced, and the space opened up to the dining room and living room. Right from the start, we knew we were in good hands with Mike and his team, including Andy Feocco from Kitchens Express, who did their best to ensure that we got the look we wanted for the best price possible. Importantly, the emphasis was on quality for price, not on getting a cheap fix that would not last.

Having had less pleasurable experiences with contractors in the past, we were so grateful when the crew arrived on time each day, left absolutely no mess behind, and kept to the planned timeline and budget. If Mike needed to show up in the evening or early in the morning to get a detail done so that he would stick to the plan, he did. There was not a detail left undone and we never had to run after him. The finished renovation is absolutely amazing. People cannot believe how different our home looks.

I would not hesitate to recommend Mike Poorman Contracting to anyone interested in the top-notch work that only years of experience can bring.”

"Completed right on schedule"

The heavy rains and bees finally took their toll on the 22 year old roof, windows and siding. This was a job that we just did not have the time or energy to do on our own. Being very competent do-it-yourselfers and having been disappointed with so called professionals in the past we were very selective in who we were going to entrust our home to. We made some inquiries and approached Mike and one other contractor for bids. Our experience with Mike during the bidding process was far superior than with his competitor. Mike was quick to respond to our initial call. He was thorough during the walk through, he listened to us, asked questions and made suggestions. Mike’s written proposal was very detailed and he took the time to explain it to us in person. He was upfront and honest with his pricing.

When the work began Mike’s team was here bright and early each day. Everyone was conscientious, polite and they kept the job site tidy. Mike communicated with us regularly, keeping us up to date on how they were progressing and what was going to happen next. The job was completed right on schedule, in a little over 3 weeks from start to finish. We were completely satisfied with the entire experience and very happy with the end result. We are pleased to recommend Mike Poorman for your contracting needs.”

"You simply couldn't ask for a better contractor."

Our project began as a relatively simple re-siding job but as we saw the quality of work being done by Mike’s guys - John and Steve, we kept adding projects until virtually everything on the outside of the house was replaced: new roofing, siding, some windows, front porch, and Hogan’s favorite, a custom dog door in back. We watched as their meticulous attention to detail converted our 1840’s home to a modern place that passers-by all stop and offer compliments to on a regular basis.

They always came on time, worked diligently in spite of tough conditions and performed beyond our expectations. They offered creative solutions to a myriad of unexpected problems arising in a house that old and Mike made sure we were satisfied with every phase of each project. The job site was kept as clean as possible and our property was treated respectfully. You simply couldn’t ask for a better contractor.”

"He certainly has a wide range of experience"

I had been referred to Mike Poorman Contracting from a very well known and well respected person in our community. I decided I wasn’t going to shop around, I would call Mike and if he could and when he could, I would hire him and wait if I must.

My first idea of renovation required a few meetings and an architect, to which after much thought, I decided to back out. He was very understanding of my decision and I resorted to a few needed windows. In turn, I decided the bed and bath weren’t my priority, the kitchen was. He certainly has a wide range of experience and he was ready to build what I wanted to meet my needs. I was comfortable in the vendors and subcontractors he suggested. They all took great pride in designing, installing or whatever their expertise is. Mike stays on top of the growth and change in the construction industry. He informed me of innovative alternate construction methods that I was not aware of.

I was told he has a history of completing successful jobs on time and within budget and he did not let me down on that either! Whether you are looking at new construction or have some remodeling needs, I highly recommend Mike Poorman for the job.”

"We would not hesitate to recommend him."

After seeing the high quality workmanship from Mike Poorman Contracting in our neighborhood, we decided to call Mike for an estimate on our somewhat unique garage. Mike was able to pull it all together. He smoothly coordinated the various contractors and delivery of materials, scheduling each phase without any delays. Mike worked alongside his employees, making quick supervisory decisions at all levels of construction. We would not hesitate to recommend him.
